DIY ELECTRIC BIKE REVIEW! 36 MPH 1500 WATT BBSHD MID DRIVE PLUS TRAIL E-BIKE! MOVE OVER RAD ROVER!

We do a Q&A style review of the DIY e-bike that I built from a Motobecane plus size mountain bike and a 52v Lunacycle 1500w BBSHD mid drive kit. It will blow the wheels off any store bike under $2000 like the Rad Rover. I cover all the major questions I got about it since the RTR.

  1. Each State is different and there are various categories of ebikes power and speed. That 750 limit is just a Consumer Safety Recommendation for retail sale, not the law. Each State sets it’s won limits.

In Virginia, an ebike limits are 1000w and 35 MPH. An e-scooter (no pedals) to be unlicensed is 1500W and 35 MPH. Any 2 or 3 wheel vehicle powered by any source that exceeds 35 MPH is legally a motorcycwl and must be licensed and insured.

If you go online to search State ebike requirements and you will see they vary a lot. Some only have a max speed limit with no power restriction.

Nice bike. The Hydraulic brakes on an ebike at any speed is a good idea. I’d up grade those brakes to a 205 front and 180 rear with Shimano’s Ice Tech rotors.
